I'm an Independent Designer...Now What?

With another potential wave of DIW's getting their wings this week, I thought this was an appropriate post.

So you got your wings and now you're an Independent Designer with Origami Owl. Congratulations and welcome to the family!  But now you're probably thinking, now what?  Well I've got a little list for you--

1. Create your facebook and Origami Owl websites.  Think of something creative and catchy.  Be sure to check the policies and procedures in the back office so you don't use any of the phrases they've requested we don't use.  Mine is www.facebook.com/locketsbybrooke.

2. Make sure all your info in the back office is up to date and correct.

3. Chose your mobile payment choice. There are several out there but I used paypal for my etsy shop (non-Origami Owl related) and Payanywhere for my parties.  I like both of them, so it's really a personal preference.  I do recommend pay anywhere for parties because it deposits right into your checking.  So you can keep all your O2 payments all in one place when someone pays with cash or check.

4. Use the press release in the back office.  I haven't really had much luck with doing that, so if you have some tips for me on this one, please let me know.

5. Contact friends and family--everyone you know and host your launch party

6. Work on your display. Purchase busts, displays for charms, chain holder etc.  Keep with the Origami Owl spirit and colors.

7. Google things like Origami Owl organization and tips.  Watch and read everything.

There are so many things to do, but this kind of gets you a good start.  Again, congratulations!  It's a wonderful journey you're starting on.

What To Do While You Wait

So you've decided to become an Independent Designer with Origami Owl, but for now you are just a Designer in Waiting (DIW).  This wait is a good thing.  It gives you time to prepare and save for your starter kit.  So what should you do while you wait?  Read on:

  1. Purchase a locket that tells your story.  Wear it daily.
  2. Carry a notebook to keep track of people you run into that express interest in purchasing a locket, hosting a party or joining your team.
  3. Start saving for your starter kit.  Once you get your invite, you'll have 72 hours to accept the invitation to join Origami Owl.  Only the Basic Starter Kit is available at this time.  You'll want to save $149 plus tax and shipping.
  4. Consider creating an email address and phone number just for your business.
  5. Start telling friends and family you are a DIW.  Create a list of all the people you know.  Create a list of friends, relatives, acquaintances, neighbors and people you know through your kids.
  6. Ask your mentor for a catalog so you can start showing the people on your list.
  7. Consider hosting your own party. Hosts can earn awesome rewards and you can use these rewards towards building your display.
  8. Purchase items for your display and office supplies.
  9. Begin to think about potential dates for your own launch party.
  10. Get excited! Share your excitement!  Get others excited!  You'll be flying before you know it!

Haven't joined the Origami Owl Team yet? What are you waiting for? Join today!  Contact me for more info or Click the Join my Team link above.  I would love to be your mentor.  Designer Number 26800

Welcome!

Welcome to my Origami Owl Blog!

I am a new Independent Designer with big dreams!  I want to take the time to tell you a little bit about why I started selling Origami Owl.

First of all, I'm a stay at home mom.  I love being home with my kids, but lets face it, there are a lot of challenges.
  1. One income families have to cut back a lot.  You really have to stay on top of your budget.  I wanted to contribute anything I could.
  2. You lose a little bit of your own identity when you respond to Mom all day.  I wanted to be something more.  Now I can say I'm a stay at home mom AND Independent Designer with Origami Owl.
  3. Adult time is limited.  Now I get to share Origami Owl with fun ladies and their friends and families.  A couple hours of adult time is just the recharge I need each week.
I believe in Origami Owl.  While on the wait list, and yes there is a wait list for this company (and it's a good thing), I took the time to research and decide if this is the company I really wanted to sign up with.  I love that this was all started by a 14 year old girl who wanted to buy a car.  It shows ambition and good values.  I also love that you can do mother and daughter teams.  What a great way to start a young entrepreneur on a career journey! And most of all, I LOVE the product. I spent a lot of time looking over the site and building My Story.  I was excited, but when my kit came in the mail, I was even more excited!  The product is just beautiful and so many possibilities.

This is my first locket:

This Lockets Story: My son thinks he's a dog (dog bone), my daughter is totally the princess of this family (pink crown), my husband and I lost a baby and he is represented by the Owl, but is soon to be represented by the vintage sparrow, my brother is deployed to Afghanistan (four leaf clover).  It is so fun to build stories based on what you love!

I would love to hear your story.  I would also love for you to join my team or host a party.  Please contact me if you are at all interested in either.  I do home parties if you are located in Western Michigan and catalog or online parties all over the United States.
